To say that I love Alejandro’s music is a huge understatement. When I fell down the rabbit hole, I had no idea that I would fall down that deeply and knew that I would stay there for a long time. I live and breathe Scarypoolparty’s music. I listen to it daily, never missing a day in the entire year and a half since I fell upon it. I even joined a Scarypoolparty Facebook Fan Club so that I could talk about my love for his music and connect with fans that have the same intense love for it as I do. I need a place to express my love for it without being judged. My friends and family are happy that I found something that I love so much, but they don’t understand why I have the level of admiration that I do for Alejandro. I joined Instagram because of Alejandro. I joined Twitter because of Alejandro. I joined Tiktok because of Alejandro. I subscribe to his Youtube account. I joined Apple Music so I can listen to his music and also pre-save his new music. I even became a moderator for The Scarypoolparty Fan Club so I could work “behind the scenes'' to support and promote Alejandro and his music. Yes, I believe in his music THAT much. If I were on a deserted island and could only listen to one artist for the rest of my life, it would be Scarypoolparty (without an ounce of hesitation). His level of musical ability is like no other. His creativity is like no other. His love for music is so pure. His face lights up when he talks about his music. He’s in his musical “zone” when he sings and performs his music. He gets really nervous whenever his new music is released because he cares about it so much. We assume he doesn't sleep at night because he is always thinking about music. He puts his heart and soul into it. Music is his entire life, which in turn has become an integral part of our lives.
So...the adventure continues following Scarypoolparty up and down the east coast. After seeing his shows in both New York and Boston, Sarah and I and two other fans (and their husbands) traveled in the SPP Party Bus (decorated in SPP magnets, peace signs and flower magnets, and window paint) to the Theatre of Living Arts in Philadelphia and then to the Lincoln Theater in Washington D.C. to see his performances there. I was just as excited about these performances as the ones in New York and Boston. I seriously can never get enough of his music and that’s a fact.
It rained the day of the show in Philadelphia. Ok, it was more than just rain. It was raining and windy. Lots of wind. The kind of wind that makes carrying an umbrella not even worthwhile. Walking from the restaurant we ate for dinner nearby to the theatre (which was only a couple of blocks) was quite an experience because I don’t do well in this type of weather. Though I was not a happy camper at that moment, I didn’t care because I was about to see Alejandro perform. That was the only thing that could make me feel like the sun is shining even on this terrible weather day.
The setlist for the Philadelphia show included:
Angel Delete
Deathwave
Holy Rejection
Malibu
Beautiful
Magic
Death City Drive
The show was so amazing (no surprise there). Alejandro put his energy into his music and gave us his all. His voice sounded really good, although there were some issues with the sound. Often, the drums drowned out his vocals and you can barely hear him sing. But the audience still moved their heads up and down to the music and intently watched his performance. Seeing that made my heart so happy. I wanted Alejandro to shine that night and he did.
The band members on this tour, Cody Krump (keyboard), Dylan DeAnda (guitar), and Moises Popa (drums) sounded amazing. Their backup vocals took the show to a whole nother level. For the first time, Alejandro looks like he was the frontman of the band. Alejandro had such a stage presence on this tour. He’s already conquering the music world by storm. I think he’s ready to make it big.
The next day, we received news from his social media that the show in Washington, D.C. was going to be acoustic due to the fact that he was exhausted and needed a break from his rock/industrial music. He was also set to fly to San Francisco that night to play at the Outside Lands Festival the next day on Halloween (which he later canceled). When we arrived in D.C. we grabbed some lunch before the show. While walking to the venue, we ran into Alejandro and his band walking on the same sidewalk but coming from the opposite direction. We stopped him and asked if we could take a few photos of him. He agreed and I grabbed a camera and took a group picture. Then Sarah pushed me towards him and said, “Katy, you should have a picture with him.” I was really hesitant because I didn’t want to bother him. I would have been just as happy admiring him from a distance. But I ended up standing next to him for a picture. I was so overwhelmed with emotion that I could not say a single word to him. Not even a “Hi! I love your music and I’m a huge fan.” Afterward, I felt tears streaming down my face and was literally a hot mess for the next couple of hours. I mean, meeting your favorite artist is a huge deal for me! Standing in front of someone who you admire so much can be quite emotional. My tears were completely unexpected but yet it showed how much his music truly means to me.
The Lincoln Theatre is a beautiful theatre that reminds me of the ones I would attend to watch a ballet or a Broadway production. This was the perfect setting for Alejandro’s acoustic music. This was so special to me because though I love his industrial heavy music, there will always be a soft spot for his acoustic music. He really brings out the raw emotion when he sings. When it is just his beautiful voice and his guitar or piano, it’s like magic. We are transported to a world where nothing else matters except Scarypoolparty.
The setlist included:
The Darkness
New song (which we do not know the name of)
Out Loud
Falling Down
Millennial Love
10 Years
During this performance, Alejandro’s stage presence stood out the most. All eyes were on him. The audience did not make a sound throughout the performance. You could hear a pin drop. That’s how mesmerizing his performance was. It reminded me of his summer acoustic tour that he did just 5 months prior. My eyes were glued to him the entire time. I heard Zenaida gasp when he started singing the untitled new song. The way I feel about his music is like no other feeling I have ever had about any other artist. It's surreal.
I am already looking forward to his next U.S. tour, which might be this summer (fingers crossed on this one). Many Scarypoolparty fans will travel near or far to see him, though Covid has put a damper on ticket sales. But we know that new music will continue to be created and the stans will persevere through this and any other obstacles that may occur. We are definitely in this for the long haul.
